Founded in 2000, VHS serves over 650 clients and supports 500+ caregivers, focusing on Adult Foster Care (AFC), Developmental Disability Services (DDS), and Massachusetts Rehabilitation Council (MRC) programs for individuals with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).   • Compensation: $200,000 to $220,000 

 

POSITION SUMMARY


 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the senior-most executive responsible for leading VHS’s strategic direction, operational excellence, and financial sustainability. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides visionary leadership to advance the organization’s mission while ensuring long-term viability. The CEO will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of operations, financial stewardship, compliance, and stakeholder engagement, fostering a strong and inclusive workplace culture while driving continuous improvement and innovation.

The ideal candidate will have extensive nonprofit leadership experience, deep financial and operational acumen, and a proven track record in Medicaid waiver programs, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth in the human services sector.

 

CEO Position Overview

Organizational Context:

The organization seeks a leader to address recent staffing gaps by providing strong financial oversight, ensuring compliance, driving increased fundraising and external presence, and delivering strategic HR leadership.

 

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with a proven track record in healthcare administration, Highly experienced leader sought, with expertise in healthcare, social impact, and government relations, capable of driving growth, managing complex environments, and optimizing resources.

Compensation and Expectations:

VHS offers a compensation package, a $200,000 to $220,000 base salary and performance-based bonus potential, and expects candidates to discuss their salary expectations and long-term career interests; final compensation will be determined by a subcommittee before an offer is extended.

Management & Scale  - Brings senior leadership experience within a mission-driven, community-focused organization, preferably in human services, healthcare, or nonprofit sectors. Ideally has experience in Medicaid waiver programs, compliance, and direct care services.

Strategy & Vision  - Experienced in developing and executing a strategic vision that enhances VHS’s impact, strengthens operations, and fosters innovation to improve culturally competent care and independent living services for vulnerable communities.

Revenue Generation & Partner Engagement   - Demonstrated success in securing state and federal funding, developing sustainable revenue streams, and strengthening relationships with key partners, funders, and regulatory bodies to ensure long-term financial stability.

Industry & Sector Experience  - Deep understanding of Massachusetts’ human services landscape, government contracts, Medicaid, and disability care programs, with experience leading compliance, workforce development, and service expansion initiatives.
